For many centuries the church year calendar has shaped our worship: the readings, the sermons, the hymns and other music, the color of the paraments, and the appearance of the worship space. In its ministry of preparation, it is the duty of the altar guild to study the background and significance of the various seasons and festivals.
It is in the duty of the Altar Guild to care for this unique place dedicated to the honor and glory of God. Our goal is to see that the sanctuary is kept neat and beautiful to glorify God and enhance the worship for our congregation. This includes care for furnishings, linens and paraments, and preparing the worship space for the special seasons and church festivals, in addition to the celebration of the Sacrament of Holy Communion and occasional services such as baptisms and confirmation.
The Altar guild meets during the year to discuss worship planning and concerns that come to the guild through the pastor, Worship, Music and Arts Committee, or the congregation.
We are currently in the season of Epiphany, with the parament colors being green, a symbol of our spiritual growth in knowing Jesus as God's Son. We will be entering into the Lenten season beginning February 26, Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, when the parament colors will become purple, the color of penitence. The name Ash Wednesday is taken from the ancient tradition of placing ashes on the foreheads of those attending the service which will be held at 7:00 p.m., along with the serving of Holy Communion.
We hope you will consider joining us for services, for All are Welcome here!
Holy Communion is celebrated each Sunday at both services
